Kay’s Top 3 Destinations for a Weekend Getaway
There is something to be said for a three-day weekend. With a change of scenery, you are allowing yourself to escape – if only for a brief moment – to be reminded that being curious is a good thing.
Looking for some weekend vacation inspiration? Here are three of my favorite destinations for a three-day getaway!
1. Charleston, South Carolina
If you're looking to be pampered, plan a stay at The Dewberry – a luxury hotel that is "Southern Reimagined.”
The ideal downtown location overlooks Marion Square on Charleston’s historic peninsula. Take a horse carriage ride around the historic district, a Schooner Sunset Sail in Charleston Harbor, or plan a day at Folly Beach.
2. Santa Ynez Valley, California
Approximately a half hour from Santa Barbara and 10 miles inland from the coast, you will find the Santa Ynez Valley wineries and vineyards – my favorite Fess Parker.
I would recommend glamping, but for those wanting more than a luxury tent, a stay in Solvang will be a wonderful choice. Visit the Old Mission Santa Ines, OstrichLand USA, and the famous Sideways Inn. Like always, never forget about that beach day!
3. San Antonio, Texas
Make sure to bring your walking shoes, as you will want to see all the River Walk has to offer! Shops and restaurants are plentiful as you meander along the river. Don’t forget to visit the Alamo and the historic Menger Bar built in 1887 – you just may see Teddy Roosevelt's ghost sitting on the corner stool.
Stay at Hotel Emma in the Pearl District, which was once an authentic brewhouse. Nothing is more magical around Christmastime than a boat ride on the river with the twinkle lights above!
