Top Sites to See in Belize

If you love a little adventure on your vacation, Belize has plenty of options. You can walk the grounds of the ancient Mayan civilization or see an amazing oceanic feature described as the “Great Blue Hole.”

Triangle Xunantunich Maya Site

Xunantunich was first explored in the 1800s by a British medical officer. It was explored over many years, and many archaeological digs were conducted to find lost relics.

Even so, this site's lifespan was relatively short. Most believe it was settled around AD 700-1000, much later than most other sites in the region. The site sits on an artificially leveled limestone ridge about 183 meters above sea level.

Four major architectural groups featured large Mayan temples, dwellings, shrines, and hubs for the elite rulers. After exploring the area, you can enjoy canoeing, kayaking, inner tubing, and swimming on the Mopan River.

Triangle Great Blue Hole

One of Belize’s most famous attractions is the Great Blue Hole, which is also one of the top diving sites worldwide. In the center of the Lighthouse Reef atoll, the Great Blue Hole is a natural sinkhole about 1000 feet across and 400 feet deep.

This natural marvel can be seen from outer space, as its navy blue color stands out against turquoise Caribbean waters. The best way to see the Great Blue Hole is by renting a catamaran to enjoy the atoll in your little floating hotel.

If you’re looking for the quintessential Caribbean golden beaches, palm trees, and lovely blue water, visit the Placencia Peninsula. This area is a 16-mile-long peninsula and a booming beach town in Belize.

You can snorkel, dive, swim, sunbathe, and explore the nightlife on Sunset Pointe. After adventuring around Belize, the Placencia Peninsula is perfect for relaxing and enjoying the sun.
